Today I learned that if I ask, I will receive.
When I arrived in California, there were a couple of things I wish I had packed and forgot at home. (This always happens to me when I travel) I sat and contemplated on asking my mom or a couple of friends to send them my way.
These included:
- a CD (I have Spotify; however, I do not have service all the time out here and don’t have access to my playlists. If I had a CD I would be able to put it on my phone from my computer and listen to it with or without service.
- new journals (I underestimated how much I would be writing out here)
- & a couple of other things
When I thought of this, I was convicted. Why not ask God for the small things as well as the big things? So, I asked God for a worship CD and new journals.
Later that night we met with our small group and they asked us for any prayer requests. I giggled and told them that I was asking God to provide a few random things. They told me they wanted to provide them for me and I explained how I wanted to leave room for faith.
“At least tell us so that we can celebrate with you when you get them.” they said.
So I told them.
My friend Layne said, “He’ll provide them when you least expect it.”
And He sure did.
The next day, screams and happy shouts came from a group of my girlfriends. One of our friends received a package that included a worship CD. She didn’t have a way to listen to it and explained to the group she wanted to give it away. My small group reflected on the prayer request, got excited, called me over and presented the CD to me.
I started laughing, embraced the envelope and started crying-happy tears.
I’m not surprised he provided because I was expectant and knew it would happen. But, why am I surprised that he provided so quickly?
The best part, the package was sent the day before I even conceived the thought of wanting the CD. So, the Lord knew my prayer before the request and thought was even made up.
That was my God smile. Ask and you shall receive. He just wants you to ask for it.
“I tell you the truth, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.”
Matthew 17:20
